This candied sweet potatoes recipe is my grandma’s traditional delicious potato recipe for Christmas each year. It’s very easy, but I praise every time and ask for the method. Pretty easy and very tasty.
Servings: 6 | Prep: 1 Hour | Cook: 5 Mins
Six sweet potatoes (peeled and sliced)
2 cup of sugar
1 (1/2 cup) stick butter
1/2 to 1 teaspoon nutmeg
One teaspoon cinnamon pinch salt
Melt butter in a large cast-iron over medium heat. Add sliced potatoes to coat.
In a bowl, mix sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt. Add it to the potatoes.
Reduce the heat and simmer for an hour completely covered with the lid. Stir occasionally until the potatoes are fork-tender. If yes, then turn off the heat, put it on a plate and serve it.
“This sounds delicious. My mother prepared sweet potatoes much the same way. However, she boiled them in the skin for a while, then sliced, sugared and placed in a buttered skillet. It’s much easier to slice the potatoes after some pre-cooking. They don’t cook as long in the skillet, but just to get a bit of browning and crispy edges. Often she pre-boiled the night before. Thank you for sharing.”
